Classic XII was held in Mulvane, August 14 and 15. Managing the East team was Dennis Nevin, Parsons, Assistant State Commissioner-12(60’) and his coaches Doug Chisam of Parker
and Dana Marlow of Parsons, and for the West, David Branson, Marion, District 4 Commissioner and Assistant State Commissioner-12(70’) assisted by Don Langford, Buhler and Terry Millard of Great Bend.
This was the year the rains came and spoiled the parade. The two teams met Saturday for practice and when they began practice in the sweltering near 100 degree temperature, clouds could be seen in the distance
to the west. After an hour’s practice, we were warned that a thunderstorm was approacing from the west and so participants and fans hurredly ate at the picnic and ran just in time to avoid the heavy
rains. Throughout the night Mulvane received about two inches of rain, but head groundskeeper Chad Gerwick and his help had the field ready to go for the first game which began a little after 12:00 noon.
The East team won the first game 10-4 and then the rains moved in again forcing the cancellation of the second game.
