The miner's house is a restoration of a 1900's period coal company house moved from Mineral, Kansas to the Hamiliton Coal Company #9 mine for coal miner John Machetta. Four families lived in the house over the years. The present owners found the home during the winter of 1997 in Filler, Kansas, a small coal mining community in southeast Kansas. The house was moved to it's present location and completely restored. The new location is rural beside a strip pit lake and the Gathering Place Shop. Owners reside in neighborhood.
See interior pictures of house.The house contains two bedrooms with lavatories. One bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed. The other contains two twin size beds. Fold out bed in living roon sleeps one. The house also has a large living room, kitchen, and a single bathroom with tub shower and lavatory. A large covered deck overlooks a strip pit lake full of largemouth bass and monster crappie. Central heat and air conditioning provide year around climate control. Period furnishings make up the rooms decor. Satellite television CNN, ESPN,ESPN2,CNBC, HGTV, TNT. Private telephone for guests.
Breakfast provided includes juice, toast, bagels, muffins, coffee, and tea. Guests have the use of the kitchen, utensils, silverware, and dishes and may use them as they choose. Kitchen is equipped with dishwasher, microwave, stove, oven, and refrigerator. Gas grill available on the deck.
Guest activities include hiking, fishing, bird watching, and outdoor activities. Happy hour Friday and Saturday at 5:45 PM at the Gathering Place or on the deck. Guests, neighbors, family and friends are invited. The owners can provide area information and some very interesting day trips. Pittsburg has many antique shops and flea markets. Maps are available to direct those interested in exploring the area for antique bargains. Arrangements can be made for boat and fishing tackle.
The location is 5 miles from downtown Pittsburg, Kansas. Eight miles from Girard, Kansas Six miles from Pittsburg State University One hundred twenty five miles from Tulsa and Kansas City.
